Rivers have long been an integral part in the lives of humans, including in China. The beloved Chinese legend of 4 dragons turning themselves into China’s 4 major rivers – Yangtze River, Yellow River, Pearl River and Heilongjiang River – in order to save the people from drought, is one loved by many of us.In Singapore, one of our most beloved rivers is the Singapore River. Located in the heart of the city, take a river cruise down to explore the 3 quays – Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay.

Nestled within a row of conserved shophouses, there is a variety of restaurants and bars along Boat Quay which is perfect for chilling after a day of meetings and networking. Sit by the riverside and dine with a view, enoying our lovely skyline and civic district. While you are there , check out some winners of Singapore River Signatures 2019 - Italian restaurant Vespetta that serves fresh, hand-made pasta, as well as North Indian restaurant Maharajah. Fun fact: Did you know that Maharajah is Boat Quay’s oldest restaurant? If you are looking for a bar to unwind after work, why not pop by Molly Malone’s (the oldest Irish Pub in Singapore) or RedDot BrewHouse for a taste of locally-brewed beer?

Known for being the city’s biggest nightlife and entertainment district, Clarke Quay is where you will find the hottest night clubs. There are plenty of food options here too, we promise it will be a night to remember!Savour tender, juicy A4 Miyazaki Ribeye at Hot Stones Restaurant, which features a unique dining concept that involves cooking fresh meat and seafood on volcanic Serpentine stone slabs. This method seals in the natural juices of the food, providing extraordinary flavour and taste. For rainy days, Upin Hotpot, another Singapore River Signatures 2019 winner, is the place to go. Upin's Tomato Soup is made entirely with fresh tomatoes that have been painstakingly peeled by hand, with no added preservatives. For some pre-party drinks, head over to McGettigan’s for live sports, live music and fantastic Irish food and drinks with your colleagues.

Quaint and serene, Robertson Quay is the choice for those who prefer a quiet brunch or romantic dinner by the river. Good food aplenty, Robertson Quay is a laid-back respite after a long day.At Robertson Quay, tuck into authentic Persian cuisine from Shabestan. The exotic flavours here will surely transport you to Middle East in an instant! Alternatively, check out Mondo Mio for great Italian Cuisine, or try out SR Signatures 2019 winner Xin Cuisine’s Poached rice with seafood in superior broth for a harmony of textures.

Remember to check out 3 of Singapore’s official national monuments found along the river. Opened in 1869, 1910 and 1929, respectively, the Cavenagh, Anderson and Elgin Bridges date back to Singapore's colonisation by the British. Cavenagh Bridge is the oldest surviving bridge across the Singapore River, and is also one of only two remaining bridges in the world built with the "Ordish-Lefeuvre system", a type of modified cable-stayed bridge design (the other is the Albert Bridge in London).Keen-eyed members of the public crossing Cavenagh Bridge will be able to spot antique signs at the end of the bridge prohibiting "any vehicle of which the laden weight exceeds 3 cwt and to all cattle and horses".
